Administration: 27 questions either self-administered or administered with assistance.

Constructs Measured: The CAT-version V addresses patients’ perceptions of nurse caring.

Reliability and Validity: Factor analysis confirms a one-dimensional model of nurse caring; internal consistency = 0.97.

Participants in CAT – version V research reflected diverse populations and conditions, including all persons regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, age, etc.

Assessment in Various Settings: CAT-version V research occurred in a 12-hospital multisite study located in 4 geographically distinct regions; additional analysis has been conducted in outpatient settings and among older adults. The instrument is available in English, Spanish, and Japanese.

Reliability and Validity: Exploratory factor analysis supported a one-factor solution (Caring Behaviors); internal consistency = 0.98.

Assessment in Various Settings: The development of the CAT-adm Survey occurred in in three states located in the Midwestern, Mid-Atlantic, and Southern Regions of the United States; sample included 1143 registered nurses recruited from 7 acute care hospitals.
